Services

Plumbing services

These five make up most of my calls. If your problem isn't listed, call (614) 622-4482 and describe it.

Flooded basements

Water in the basement gets more expensive the longer it sits, so call as soon as you see it.

When I get there, the first job is finding the source. It's usually a failed sump pump, a broken pipe or a backed-up drain. I'll stop it, then tell you what it'll take to keep it from happening again.

If water is coming in right now, follow the steps at the bottom of this page while you wait.

Call me if you notice

  • Standing water on the basement floor
  • Water coming up through a floor drain
  • Water after a heavy rain
  • Water with no obvious source

Sump pump replacement

Most people find out their sump pump has quit when the basement starts taking on water during a storm.

I'll pull the old pump, put in a new one and run it before I leave so you know it's working. If anything else in the pit looks wrong, I'll show you.

Call me if you notice

  • The pump hums but doesn't move water
  • It runs constantly or cycles on and off
  • The pit is filling and the pump isn't kicking on
  • It's old and storm season is coming

Water heater replacement

I'll tell you honestly whether your water heater is worth repairing or needs to be replaced, and what each option costs, before I start.

If it needs replacing, I can often have the new one in the next day.

Call me if you notice

  • No hot water, or it runs out fast
  • Water pooling around the base of the tank
  • Rusty or discolored hot water
  • Popping or rumbling when it heats

Emergency leak repair

Shut off the water if you can (the steps are below), then call.

I answer 24 hours a day. Customers have had me at the house within an hour or two of calling, including late at night.

Call me if you notice

  • A burst or split pipe
  • Water dripping through a ceiling
  • A leak under a sink or behind a wall
  • A fixture that won't shut off

Clog clearing

If the plunger hasn't done it, call me and I'll clear it.

When several drains back up at the same time, the clog is usually further down in the main line. That one needs a plumber.

Call me if you notice

  • A sink, tub or shower draining slowly
  • A toilet that keeps backing up
  • Gurgling sounds from drains
  • More than one drain backing up at once

If water is coming in

What to do before I get there

Call first so I can head your way, then do whatever you can safely do from this list.

  1. Shut off the main water valve

It's usually in the basement or crawlspace where the water line comes through the wall, near the meter. Turn it clockwise until it stops.

  2. Keep away from water near electrical

Don't walk through standing water near outlets, cords or the panel. Only flip a breaker if you can reach the panel from somewhere dry.

  3. Turn off the water heater if it's the source

For gas, turn the control knob to off or pilot. For electric, switch off its breaker.

  4. Open a faucet on the lowest floor

This drains the water left in the pipes so it goes down the sink instead of onto the floor.

  5. Move things off the floor

Get boxes, rugs and anything else you care about out of the water. Take a few photos for insurance.
